Bust of Alexander I of Russia
Made by WOOD & CALDWELL, Burslem, Staffordshire.
Half-length, wearing full military uniform, his head turned slightly to the left. Impressed on the reverse 'Alexander Aet. 35 Moscow Burnt Europe Preserved 1812'. Impressed mark 'WOOD & CALDWELL, BURSLEM'. Dark brown colour with a pale face. Height 30.5cm. This model also exists Painted all over in black enamel, on waisted socle base (see lower down page). Mentioned on page 167 of "English Earthenware Figures", by Pat Halfpenny, published 1991.
